Q.  I tried to upload my picture, but all I see is a red X - what do I do?
A.  PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY UPLOADING YOUR PUP'S PIC(S):

The most common causes of upload troubles are 1. the image is too big and 2. there are invalid characters in the file name. Here are some helpful hints on getting your pup's pics up right away!

images must be:
less than or equal to 640 x 480 pixels in size
smaller than 100K in file size
not contain any spaces in the file name (example: dog pic.jpg - should be dogpic.jpg)
not contain any invalid characters in the file name (example: dog'spic.jpg - should be dogspic.jpg)

If you continue to have trouble uploading, just send the pictures over to topdog@ratemypup.com and we'll put them in manually for you ASAP.

Q.  I tried to sign up for an account and upload my pup's picture, but it didn't work. I tried to get another account, but I can't use the original name because it says "Email already exists"...what do I do?
A.  If you have ANY problems getting your pup's pictures up on the website or with your account, simply email us at topdog@ratemypup.com and we'll be happy to help out! All we have to do in order to have you successfully using your initial account is to upload your pictures for you - and then we'll be happy to delete any other "dead" accounts that you may have created. Regardless of the problem that you may be experiencing, we will gladly assist you so you can show off your cute pup! Email us with a detailed description of your problem, and we will have you up and running in no time.

Q.  Will posting a picture result in it remaining on your site forever?
A.  No, deleting is permitted at any time.

Q.  How can I remove any of my images once they are uploaded?
A.  There is a link named upload picture in the member menu, and, upon clicking it, youll get a button for deleting your picture.

Q.  Why are the ratings not an arithmetic average?
A.  A large amount of people give 1 ratings to everyone, and therefore a straight average isnt appropriate. The method we use for countering this wave of 1s is making the overall rating a root meean square. To put it simply, we compute the square root of the averages of the squares of your ratings. A more detailed explanation is available through most major search engines :)A simple example would go something like this: Somebody rates you a 2, somebody else a 10.A 6 ranking would be the result. By using our method, you get a 7,2, by squaring 2, squaring 10, (4 and 100, respectively) and averaging the results, which would give a final result of 52, which, upon extracting the square root, gives 7,2.

Q.  What does "Queued" mean, when talking about my pictures status?
A.  That means your picture is still waiting for approval/rejection

Q.  What does "Disabled" mean, when talking about my pictures status?
A.  That means that your picture has been rejected as it does not follow our image rules

Q.  Why has my picture been rejected?
A.  See the upload picture page for the latest rules. If you comply to all those rules but it still cant get approval, then probably its under the suspicion of being a stolen/ otherwisenot legit picture. contact us in order to clarify things. Include a usernameand user ID.

Q.  Someone has stolen my picture! What can I do?
A.  Please use the report image link below the picture to send a notification to the admin.
